Babies R Expensive!

Hello and welcome to our blog!  Tom and I are so excited to be welcoming our first baby, fondly called "Qbert" until further notice.  Now that we are approaching our second trimester, we thought it would be fun to start blogging about our baby adventures.  We are due 7/18/08.  Yes, we do plan on finding out the sex, but we won't know until the end of February.  No, we're not sharing the name until Qbert arrives!

Tom and I just returned from our first baby shopping extravaganza.  This was mostly a fact-finding mission.  After traveling for the past week we couldn't think of a more relaxing way to spend the last day of the year, then in baby superstores.  We started at Baby Depot.  The store by us is fairly rundown and jumbled together.  We spent a long time looking at strollers, car seats, cribs and bedding.  I actually started tearing up at some of the infant clothes --- I blame the hormones!  We found a few things we liked - most notably a high chair and a glider.  We decided to check out Babies R Us as well.  Their selection was far better than the Baby Depot and I quickly went into product overload.  I did, however, find a crib and bedding set that I really liked.  Tom is holding out for a dinosaur bedding set, but I like the animals!
We spent a while looking at strollers.  The big fancy ones look great, but I can barely lift them and can hardly imagine getting them in and out of the car every day.  We found a smaller one that would probably work well, but we still want to do more research.

At some point I just hit a wall and told Tom I was done.  As we were leaving he asked me what we learned today.  I replied "Babies R Expensive".

You guys are so funny! It is overwhelming at first, but you will quickly learn that every mom will tell you what is "good" and what is "not to be bothered with". You will find that we (crazy moms) will contradict each other, and then you will learn that trial and error is the only way to find exactly what works for you. (Just trust me on the diaper Genie... no one has ever contradicted me on that ;)

Anyway, try not to overwhelm yourselves on all the little stuff, people love to buy for babies and you will be overwhelmed later with all the "gifts" that someone just couldn't leave the store without buying for you, well little Q. (Which by the way, I am proud to say I have resisted... so far!)

I vote for the Jungle theme, and not just because that elephant looks awfully familiar!

Thanks for the twins b-day gifts!!! That was an awesome idea! Someday, they will really appreciate that, even if today its just more paper to them!

Just needed to mention that I think Taylor and Alivya vote dinasaurs... this morning they tore down their jungle border!
